I spent this past weekend in Iselin, NJ, at the NJ RWA Conference. As always, this particular event was incredibly well-run. The committee always does a great job, and I left feeling recharged.
Both keynote speakers, Kerrelyn Sparks and Beth Ciotta, gave some incredibly inspiring speeches. They talked about we can’t allow our fear to overpower our passion. I think every writer struggles with their self-doubt now and again. It was a good reminder, that we can’t let that stop us.
I went to a bunch of workshops, which was great. The past couple of years at Nationals I’ve spent a lot of time socializing. It was nice to refocus on craft. There were some great ones about promotion and marketing, too. And while that stuff isn’t my favorite part of this writing career (writing is, in fact, my favorite part. *grins*), it is important information to have.
I was the book fair chair again this year, and the book signing went off without a hitch. Part of that was thanks to our bookseller, Words in Maplewood. This is their second year, and they did an amazing job. They’re a pleasure to work with.
On a personal note, one of my dear writing friends, Jessica Ruddick, signed for the first time. Super excited for her. Her book, LETTING GO, was a release from Entangled Embrace earlier this year.
I also got to have dinner with some amazing friends. Nothing like spending time with your tribe to refill the well! Picture: Laurie Benson, Jessica Ruddick, Jen Doyle, me, and Michele Arris
Have you gone to any amazing writing events lately? Do you have any coming up?
